Dr Tessa McGuigan

Tessa is one of our friendly and enthusiastic veterinarians, bringing a fresh perspective, a love of learning, and plenty of compassion to the clinic each day. Originally from Cairns, Tessa graduated from James Cook University and officially began her veterinary career in 2026 as a new graduate.

One of Tessa’s favourite things about working in the veterinary industry is that no two days are ever the same — from meeting plenty of furry friends to working through new and interesting cases every day. While she’s currently enjoying learning about all areas of veterinary medicine, she has a particular interest in surgery and feline medicine.

At home, Tessa has a full house of beloved pets, including her cats Meg and Hercules, her two Border Collies Atticus and Finn, and many, many freshwater fish (all with names)! Meg is always ready for a cuddle, Hercules loves kisses and being her personal alarm clock, Atticus is affectionately known as “Catticus” thanks to his cat-like personality, and Finn keeps everyone entertained with his sweet but mischievous nature.

Outside of the clinic, Tessa enjoys hiking to waterfalls and scenic views, playing tennis with her partner Mitch, poolside chess games, and board game nights with family and friends (especially Catan). She also loves music and art, and will happily pick up her guitar whenever she gets the chance. After a busy day, you’ll usually find her curled up with her cats, a good book, and a vanilla latte close by.

Known for her warm nature and genuine passion for animals, Tessa is a wonderful addition to our team and someone both pets and their owners quickly feel comfortable with.
