A microchip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, is inserted under your pet’s skin, typically between the shoulders, during a standard consultation. Each chip contains a unique identification code registered in a national database, making it the most reliable way to permanently identify your pet. Microchipping plays a vital role in reuniting lost pets with their owners and can also help resolve ownership disputes. In some Australian states, it is now a legal requirement. If your pet isn’t microchipped, contact us to book an appointment. If you find a lost pet, we can scan for a microchip and help locate the owner.
Keeping your contact details up to date on the pet registry is essential. If a lost pet is brought to a vet or shelter, a scanner will detect the microchip’s unique code, allowing staff to retrieve the owner’s details from the database and facilitate a quick reunion.
